Careers

Always keen to meet creative and industrious students.

Students

We are dedicated to providing our students personalized, stimulating, and enriching training that will serve them throughout their career.

At Power Law, students actively participate in each step of a file, before all levels of court. We value the interests and opinions of our students. We expect them to participate in developing the theories of our cases, and welcome them into the firm’s social life.

How to Apply

Spend your summer with us!

Students should submit their application in electronic form (including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and transcripts) in a single PDF document. The deadline for applying is typically at the end of January, for positions beginning in the summer of that year. Interviews typically take place in mid-February.

Articling

The process is similar to the application process for the summer program. The deadline for applications is typically towards the end of May of the year before articles are to commence. Interviews typically take place in mid-June.

Learn about a career at Power Law

Given our small size, low overhead costs, and national presence, it is essential that our students demonstrate initiative and work efficiently in a team environment.

Are you a highly motivated law student? At Power Law, we are committed to providing you with an enriching experience that will give you a leg up in your career. We believe you learn by doing, so you will be exposed to a range of files and projects and work with all team members, either in our Ottawa or Vancouver office. We value the opinions of our students and expect you to participate every step of the way. We encourage you to participate in training sessions and attend conferences, and immerse yourself in the firm’s culture and social opportunities.

Given our small size, low overhead costs, and national presence, we require you to demonstrate initiative, impeccable work ethic, and the ability to work efficiently with other team members.

At Power Law, French/English bilingualism is an integral part of our identity. We are even more interested by students who are fluent in or learning additional languages. Training or degrees in Civil Law or Aboriginal Law is greatly valued.

The majority of our team members completed clerkships at the Supreme Court of Canada and elsewhere; Power Law proudly and actively supports its students’ ambitions to clerk.

Deadlines for submitting applications to our Ottawa office are established by a roundtable of Ottawa recruiters, and are approved yearly by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Interested candidates should confirm these dates with the Law Society of Upper Canada, or their law school. We invite students interested in working in our Vancouver office to follow a similar calendar.

Each application will be considered. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
